Too Many Kitchens in the Apartment
Q: One of my friends recently expanded her apartment by buying an adjacent apartment. She was told that she would have to remove the second kitchen because there is a New York law that prohibits two kitchens in one apartment. Is this true?
A: Yes. Lior Aldad, a Manhattan co-op and condo lawyer, said that the second kitchen must be eliminated and plumbing connections must be capped, unless they are otherwise approved for an alternative use, like a new bathroom.
Mr. Aldad said the two kitchens may also be combined into a single kitchen.
